Terms and Conditions, effective September 12, 2017
The mission of The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) is to develop human potential through leadership in music and arts education. The terms and conditions set out below are designed to support the RCM’s overarching mission.
All resources, benefits, and fees of the RCM Music Theory Levels 5, 6, 7, and 8: Online Courses with Exam, including the terms and conditions below, are subject to amendment without notice.
GENERAL ENROLLMENT
- 1. To purchase an RCM Music Theory Level 5, 6, 7, or -8: Online Course with Exam, visit rcmusic.com/digital-learning/theory/purchase, and follow the onscreen instructions.
- 2. You will receive access to an RCM Music Theory Level 5, 6, 7, or 8: Online Course with Exam, subject to the RCM’s terms and conditions, once payment has been received.
- 3. Any information provided to the RCM for the purpose of registration for this product will be retained by the RCM.
- 4. As the student accessing this course, you agree to provide true and accurate information. When you register, you must provide your real name and location and any other such details as requested for completing your online account.
- 5. Purchase of an RCM Music Theory Level 5, 6, 7, or 8: Online Course with Exam is for personal use only. The RCM reserves the right to revoke your access if it is determined that your access has been shared.
FEES
- 1. Fees are payable to The Royal Conservatory. All monetary transactions are processed by the RCM and must be completed online.
HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
To complete the course and exam, you must have access to the hardware and software requirements outlined below:
- For the best course experience we strongly recommend you complete this course along with its companion Apps, available exclusively for iOS, on an iPad.
*Compatible devices running iOS 10.X: iPad Pro 12.9-inch, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad 5th generation, iPad 4th generation, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2 - The course and examination can be completed on a desktop or laptop computer but you will not have access to the companion Apps that are a key component of the best course experience.

A DSL, cable, or satellite internet connection is highly recommended (this course requires you to download/stream audio examples that can be very slow on a dial-up connection)
DURATION
- Your access to an RCM Music Theory Levels 5, 6, 7, or 8: Online Course with Exam will be available for twelve (12) months from date of purchase.
ONLINE EXAMINATION PROCEDURES
- 1. Once you begin writing each unit test and the final examination, there is no opportunity to stop and restart.
- 2. By launching each unit test and the final examination, you are confirming that you are the person who will be receiving credit for the work.
- 3. Because the unit tests and final examination must be completed within the strictly enforced time limit, you are strongly encouraged to place yourself in a space where you will not be disturbed by others. Abandoning the exam will result in marks being given only for elements that have been completed within the allotted time period.
- 4. You must be connected to the internet to complete and submit each unit test and the final Examination
- 5. At the end of the allotted time period, the exam system will shut down and you will be locked out
ONLINE UNIT TEST AND FINAL EXAMINATION RESULTS
- 1. All unit tests and final examination results are final.
- 2. The unit tests and final examination may be written at any time within one (1) year of purchase.
- 3. Results will be available immediately after completing and submitting each unit test. Unit test results may be accessed in the course and your final course grade will be available within two weeks (10 business days) of completing the final examination by logging into My RCM at rcmusic.com.
- 4. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the exam. For information about practical examinations and corequisites, please see “Theory Requirements for Practical Certificates and Diplomas” on page 11 of the Theory Syllabus, 2016 Edition, which is available online for free download.
- 5. Students wishing to be eligible for gold medals and awards must complete their RCM Music Theory Level 5, 6, 7, or 8: Online Course with Exam by August 15th of the academic year for which they wish to be considered.
- 6. The Theory Level 5, 6, 7, or 8: Online Course with Exam may not be eligible for consideration for high school credits in Canada, as the written exams are. Students are encouraged to speak to their guidance counsellor.
REFUND
- 1. All RCM Music Theory Levels 5-8: Online Course with Exam purchases are non-refundable and non-transferable.
